Uses Of Turmeric (Luyang Dilaw)

Turmeric is a plant. You probably know turmeric as the main spice in curry. It has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavor or color curry powders, mustards, butters, and cheeses. But the root of turmeric is also used widely to make medicine.
Turmeric is used for:

1. Arthritis
2. Heartburn (dyspepsia)
3. Stomach pain
4. Diarrhea
5. Intestinal gas
6. Stomach bloating
7. Loss of appetite
8. Jaundice
9. Liver problems
10. Gallbladder disorders
11. Acne/ Pimples
12. Ringworm
13. Bruising
14. Leech Bites
15. Eye infections
16. Inflammatory skin conditions
17. Soreness inside the mouth
18. Infected wounds

Turmeric is likely safe when taken by mouth or applied to the skin appropriately for up to 8 months.

Turmeric usually does not cause significant side effects; however, some people can experience stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, or diarrhea.

In one report, a person who took very high amounts of turmeric, over 1500 mg twice daily, experienced a dangerous abnormal heart rhythm. However, it is unclear if turmeric was the actual cause of this side effect. Until more is known, avoid taking excessively large doses of turmeric.

Heat Stroke Prevention

Heat Stroke is the most serious form of heat injury. Heat stroke can kill or cause damage to the brain and other internal organs.
Heat Stroke results from prolonged exposure to high temperatures usually in combination with dehydration which leads to failure of body's temperature control system. Webmd

1. Drink plenty of fluids. It is recommended to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.    Staying hydrated will help your body maintain  a normal body temperature.

  • Avoid fluids that contain caffeine or alcohol because both substance can make you lose fluids and worsen heat exhaustion.
2. Eat fruits and vegetables with high water content. Watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple, cucumber, celery, lettuce, carrots, tomatoes etc.

3. Wear loose-fitting, light weight, light colored clothes. Dark colors absorb the sun's rays.

4. Limit Outdoor Activities.

  • Avoid peak hours. The sun's rays are stronger between 10 am until 4 pm.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise.
  • Use sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15.
  • Use hat or umbrella. To protect your head, nape and face from the heat of the sun.
